There is a quiet moment before burnout – a whisper before the collapse. Most women miss it, because we’ve been taught to override softness with productivity. It is great to be productive, but we are not designed to constantly create, produce, strategise and push, the idea that we expect this from ourselves is so masculine and destructive. It took me a lot of time and effort to learn to listen to my body and give myself the permission to pause. Here are five signs it’s time to rest, and reclaim your softness.

1. You’re producing, but you’re not present.
Ticking boxes has replaced feeling alive. When achievement becomes numbing rather than nourishing, your body is asking for a pause – not another goal.
2. Rest feels like something you have to earn.
If you only allow yourself to slow down after the to-do list is empty, you’ve confused worth with output. Rest is not a reward. It is a birthright.
3. You can’t remember the last time you were curious.
Wonder is a feminine frequency. When work replaces play, when Sunday planning replaces spontaneity, that dimming is a signal – not a personality trait.

4. Your body is speaking louder than your calendar.
Tension, fatigue, shallow sleep – these aren’t inconveniences to push through. They are your nervous system asking for softness before it demands it.
5. You’re romanticizing rest instead of living it.
If vacations live only in your saved folder, that longing is data. Booking the trip isn’t indulgent – it’s an act of receiving.

A gentle truth: you don’t need permission from your productivity to rest. You need permission from yourself. A vacation isn’t an escape from your life – it’s a return to the woman underneath the doing. Not the one who earns her softness, but the one who already deserves it.
These are images from a relaxing afternoon in Mdina, Malta. Dress is from M&S, bag – Furla. Apart from this week, I have one more before my much needed and well deserved vacation. I am so excited… 🙂
So – where is your body asking to go?
With softness and intention,
